My first solo trip right after I quit my job without an offer on my hand.
Rented a room at Victoria hotel
Looking back at this trip this was probably the most reckless thing I did. I just woke up one day and told my mom I want to visit Penang and I am going to drive. I know this is not a big deal considering there are people of my age went for solo trip oversea. I was a good home boy back then and to make this trip it is big win for me. It was a life changing one
Famous murals by Ernest Zacharevic I took at the time
Probably the most iconic things about Penang at the time were the murals by Ernest Zacharevic around Penang streets not too far from the hotel I was staying. Got to experience first hand the famous murals. At first glance my thought was my mom probably can do it too since she had painted murals in Klinik Kesihatan before. The longer and the more I look at them, I appreciate why it was iconic. It literally was a snapshot of Penang life in Art form
Temples and Clan houses
Going around Penang, I realized how similar it was to Melaka and Singapore because of their history as Straits states. To put into comparison between Penang and Melaka I would say Penang is a less commercialized and more refined version of Melaka city. The buildings are more well kept and intact compared to those we found in Melaka. Everything here looks very original unlike those we found in Jonker Street which started to look like a movie set.
Batu Ferringhi I captured at the time
If you like beaches you probably will like Batu Ferringhi. I like the way it look back then beaches are clean there were so much activities back then. A nice place to offload some of your stress there
